I’m a professor at Osnabrück University and a member of the research group Applied Algebra and Data Analysis of the Institute of Mathematics. Since 2016 I’m the dean of my department. The Research Center Data Science was established at Osnabrück University in 2025 with me as its managing director. In 2023 the Joint Lab Artificial Intelligence & Data Science was founded as part of a strategic partnership between Osnabrück University and the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy and here I am one of the four spokespersons. In 2025 the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony (MWK) has decided on the funding of the project “KI-Reallabor Agrar (RLA)” through the program zukunft.niedersachsen of the Volkswagen Foundation and here I am the project manager.
Research Interests
My research interests are in applied algebra and data analysis with application to other areas like agricultural technology, algebraic statistics and probability theory, combinatorics, commutative algebra, discrete geometry, machine learning, and (industrial) data science.
